Polling started on Wednesday in 24 constituencies of seven districts in the first phase of the three phased Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. A voter turnout of 26.72% was recorded till 11:00 am. Visuals from various surveying stations in 24constituencies showed people queued up in large numbers awaiting their turn to cast their vote.
Around 23.27 lakh voters, including 5.66 lakh youths, will decide the fate of leaders to decide the fate of 219 candidates.
Famous candidate Iltija Mufti (37), the daughter of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, who is contesting from Srigufwara-Bijbehara, AICC general secretary and double cross priest Gulam Ahmed Mir (Dooru), four-time MLA and veteran CPIM pioneer M Y Tarigami (Kulgam), and previous clergymen — Congress’ Pirzada Sayeed (Anantnag) and NC’s Sakina Itoo (D H Pora).
Security has been expanded at all the polling stations and arrangement for elders ,women and voters with disability have been put in place.

Voter turnout of 47.17% till 1 pm was recorded across 24 Assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir.
