A Breakthrough Design: Passport When Closed, Expansive Canvas When Open
Closed, the iPhone Duo adopts a passport-like shape that is comfortable for one-handed use and highly pocketable. Its 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display delivers approximately 90 per cent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro. Opened, the device reveals a continuous 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display — 50 per cent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max screen and the largest ever on an iPhone — providing an immersive canvas for content, gaming, and multitasking. Both displays share the same aspect ratio, ensuring content scales proportionally and the experience feels continuous whether the device is open or closed.
The open device measures just 5.2 mm thick, making it the thinnest iPhone ever, while closed it is 11.3 mm thick. It weighs 254 grams. Dimensions when open are approximately 164.6 x 117.8 x 5.2 mm; closed, roughly 84.1 x 117.8 x 11.3 mm. Built on a 2 nm process, it delivers pro-level performance with a custom-designed vapour chamber for advanced thermal management. A dual-battery architecture places high-energy batteries on each side of the device. Energy rebalancing algorithms allow the batteries to operate seamlessly as one system.
Apple rates the iPhone Duo for up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display, up to 44 hours on the outer display, and up to 24 hours of mixed use when both displays are used equally. It supports fast charging to 50 per cent in about 20 minutes with a compatible USB-C charger and wireless charging to 50 per cent in around 30 minutes via MagSafe or Qi2. The device is eSIM-only and includes Apple’s C2 cellular modem along with advanced wireless connectivity.
Touch ID is integrated into the side button for consistent authentication whether the phone is open or closed. Users can also unlock the device with their Apple Watch. Camera Control provides quick access to the camera, including a new Siri Camera mode that lets Siri see what the user sees.

Smart Take uses on-device AI to analyse the scene and automatically capture photos when subjects are posing, so users can be in the shot rather than behind the camera. Users can take selfies with the high-resolution rear cameras while previewing on the outer display. Duo Preview shows a live view on the outer screen so subjects can check framing. Kid Cue plays animations from Peanuts on the outer display to capture children’s attention. Duo FaceTime allows others nearby to join a call on the outer display without crowding around one screen. Dual Capture in FaceTime shares front and rear feeds simultaneously.
Video capabilities include 4K120 fps recording in Dolby Vision on the main camera for adjustable slow-motion effects, post-capture Cinematic mode at up to 60 fps, improved Audio Mix algorithms, and 4K Dolby Vision time-lapse. The device can be propped open for stable longer takes without a tripod.
A Reimagined iOS Experience
iOS 27 has been tailored for the iPhone Duo while remaining familiar and intuitive. Lock Screen controls, the Home Screen Dock, and app navigation shift to the side to maximise vertical content space. When open, the display shows two Home Screen pages with Today View (a vertically scrolling list of customizable widgets) on the left. The status bar uses a circular, flexible system nestled into the corner, and the Dynamic Island is redesigned to fit vertically, expanding for Live Activities and alerts.
Content reacts fluidly as the device folds, reorients when turned, and switches displays when flipped. Multitasking supports two apps side by side for immersive productivity. Apple apps are optimised for the form factor, and developers can adapt their apps using new APIs. Third-party apps including Netflix, Zoom, and Slack already take advantage of the larger display and new interaction modes. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model, with options up to 2TB.
